Concert Royal Trio

The Concert Royal Trio last visited Clitheroe in November 2004. On the 5th March 2025, nearly 21years later, they returned to inform, educate and entertain a new generation of audience members. Their distinctive “Georgian Drawing Room sound” provided a lovely celebration of early music.

Flautist Peter Harrison not only introduced many of the composers and the background to the pieces he performed, but provided an interesting explanation of his late eighteenth century flute. Similarly John Treherne introduced his relatively modern Wooderson Harpsichord, and explained how the original collaboration with Peter aspired them to create the authentic musical sound of the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.

For this visit they were joined by baroque cellist Rachel Gray, from the University of York, who played a 1770 English violoncello. Throughout the evening the performers provided insights into the works they performed, captivating the audience with the sounds of bygone eras, whether playing as soloists, in duets or trios.
