“That was wonderful, I just loved the complexity of the sounds,” was the verdict of one audience member’s assessment of the performance of the Brahms String Sextet No 2 in G minor Op 36. This was the opening piece played at the Clitheroe Concerts Society’s event on Wednesday 4th March by the Lucia Strings Sextet.
For the fifth concert of the 2025 – 2026 season, the Society moved back to the spacious, comfortable and acoustically superb facilities of the Trinity Methodist Sanctuary. A wonderful setting to capture the beautiful sounds of the two violins, two violas and two cellos which comprise the Lucia Strings.
This sextet, comprising professional freelance musicians from different parts of the North West of England, were drawn together by their shared passion and love of Chamber music.
After the interval the audience enjoyed another major string composition, namely the popular Tchaikovsky String Sextet in D minor ‘Souvenir de Florence’ Op 70. A rich mix of Italian and Russian themes, which inspired the artists to showcase their depth of understanding, skills and panache to great effect.
