73rd Season commenced on Wednesday 2nd October 2024
Clitheroe Concerts Society’s 73rd Season commenced on Wednesday 2nd October 2024 with an explosion of rhythm, passion and international musical genres, as the immensely talented group Klezmer-ish took to the stage at the Trinity Methodist Church and Community Hub.
The audience of over 80, were taken on a musical journey over time, tracing the origins of Klezmer from early east European travellers to its manifestations in gypsy jazz, tango, ballads and film scores.
The four musicians, all classically trained, met whilst playing with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, but discovered a love of performing klezmer and jazz, which they fashioned in their own distinctive style. To the excitement and delight of the audience, they played a heart rendering encore which sought to secure the power of music to a very troubled world.
It was the Society’s first concert in the beautifully appointed Sanctuary of Trinity Methodist Church, whose acoustics enhanced a stunning and memorable performance to launch the Society’s new season of concerts. Certainly a very different style of chamber music, but one which was enthusiastically welcomed by all.
During the evening, Members of the Society warmly acknowledged the retirement of long standing Trustee Mrs Evelyn Gorst and welcomed two accomplished musicians as new Committee members; namely Mrs Anne Barnes and Mr Graham Moon.
