A Venetian Carnival
Venice: a city of lovers, excess and extravagance. Masked figures, courtesans, the wedding of the Doge to the sea, the exuberance of Carnivale, tales of lust, betrayal and murder. Diaries, letters and words from John Evelyn, John Ruskin, Dr Charles Burney, Charles de Brosses, Wiliam Beckford and Jennifer Janse. Music by Cavalli, Galuppi, Handel, Lotti, Marcello, Monteverdi, Stradella and Strozzi alongside the incomparable ‘Red Priest’, Antonio Vivaldi
Dramatic, choreographed scenes. Virtuosic solo performances. Vitality, passion, humour and wit as music, poetry and prose are woven into a seamless tapestry of sound and narration.
This is a programme with a difference.
