Venice: a city of lovers, excess and extravagance. Masked figures, courtesans, the wedding of the Doge to the sea, the exuberance of Carnivale, tales of lust, betrayal and murder. Diaries, letters and words from John Evelyn, John Ruskin, Dr Charles Burney, Charles de Brosses, Wiliam Beckford and Jennifer Janse. Music by Cavalli, Galuppi, Handel, Lotti, Marcello, Monteverdi, Stradella and Strozzi alongside the incomparable ‘Red Priest’, Antonio Vivaldi
